PILOT'S PLANS UNCERTAIN.

MISS MAGKAY'S POSITION.

SMALL FINANCIAL INTEREST.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright, A. and N.Z. LONDON. March 8.

Mystery surrounds the destination of Captain Hinchcliffe, on his contemplated flight. The officials at the Cranwell aerodrome in Lincolnshire say they do not know whether the flight is to be to India or across the Atlantic, but that it will certainly be one or the other. As regards the story published in the Daily Express to the effect that the Hon. Elsie Mackay, daughter of Viscount Inchcape, intended to accompany Captain Hinchcliffe, she says there is awomraodation for two people in the aeroplane Adventure, but she does not know who will accompany Captain Hinchcliffe,. " I am very much annoyed about the whole matter," she says. " T never intended to go. I have only a small financial interest in the project of establishing a i record for a non-stop flight." Mis« Mackay admits that she has been aloft 1 on every occasion of the machine's trials and would give anything to go on a /transatlantic trip in it, but her father was opposed to the idea. Captain Hinchcliffe says he hopes to make a transatlantic flight shortly, but he will first carry out a long-distance non-stop flight. He may attempt to fly to Karachi. "In any case," he says, " I shall try to be the first man to go to America from England by air." STORY FROM NEW YORK. FLIGHT REALLY PLANNED. ■ . / STOPPED BY PUBLICITY. _____ A. and N.Z. NEW YORK, March 8. The New York Sun publishes a statement to the effect that secret arrangements were made for Miss Mackay and Captain Hinchcliffe to attempt a transatlantic flight, but the premature publicity given to the matter forced tliem to abandon it. The paper says it obtained an admission to this effect from Mr. John Gillespie, who is Captain Hinchcliffe's American manager. The latter I said the flight would be undertaken in spite of the of Miss Mackay's family.
