[BY TELEGBAPH. —OWN COBBESPONDENT. ] TAURANGA, Friday. The Tauianga Harbour Board met yesterday, Mr. Donald Grant presiding.

An amendment to the by-laws was adopted providing for a reduction in ianding charges on sheep, from 4d to 2d per head on consignments of over 25 head, as from April 1. The object is to encourage the landing at Tauranga of sheep from Gisbome which are intended for Bay of Plenty and Waikato settlers. The Northern Steamship Company submitted a request that the board reduce its charges on certain goods in order to meet competition by the railway. It was decided to defer the matter until the next meeting, the Finance Committee to prepare a report in the meantime. The Sir W. G. Armstrong Whitworth Company offered to sell its wharf at Mount Mauoganui to the board, or, failing purchase, to dismantle it under certain conditions. The matter was deferred.

A letter was received from the Minister of Railways, Mr. Coates, in reference to the board's representations regarding the erection of an advertising hoarding on the Tauranga waterfront. The Minister said he had carefully perused the correspondence in connection with the matter and did not think any real objection could be raised.

Mr. G. A. Lee, consulting engineer, advised that he had completed the survey chart of the Tauranga Harbour. The tender of Mr. W. Schofield, for the lease of Mount Drury, near Mount Maunganui, at £l6 a year, was accepted. * A letter was read from a settler at Waikareao objecting to a proposal to discbarge the borough sewege into the Waikareao, estaury. It was decided to reply that the board would take every care to safeguard the interests of people owning property on the foreshore. Seven applications were received for the position of harbourmaster. The number was reduced to three, and it was decided to make the appointment at the next meeting. NAPIER BOARD ELECTION. ■ ,i RETURN OF MR. J. S.
