OPEN SEASON FOR RED DEER.

When the Waimarino Acclimatisation Society met this week it was announced that notification had been received from the Minister of Internal Affairs respecting the open season for red deer in the Waimarino district. The season will open on March 26 and close on April 30, both days inclusive. No licence-holder shall be entitled to take or kill more than five stags and five hinds, and no stag shall be killed that has an antler of fewer than ten points. In reply to an inquiry made by the society the Marine Department sent full information in regard to the "tagging" of trout.' The matter was discussed at length and it was decided that the secretary procure the necessary appliance so that trout in the local waters could be "tagged." This arrangement will supply useful data. Mr. A. Turton requested that something should be done to the Whakapapa stream so that its waters could be turned into the proper channel. Owing to the heavy cost it was decided that no help can be given in the matter. Tlie Department of Internal Affairs informed the society that the representations made relative to the question of worm-infested ..trout coming from Lake Roto Aira into the Poutu River would receive careful consideratidn.
