Amounjs. who put up a. similar time record in the Epsom Handicap of 1926, was four years old at the period named.

NOTES BY PHAETON. THE THOMPSON HANDICAP. In the event of Reremoana (9.6), Hynanna (9.4). Star Stranger (9.4). and Rapier (9.2) being produced to contest the Thompson Handicap at Trentham next week the mile race should furnish one of the most interesting contests that has eventuated on the Wellington ground, for each of the doughty quartette has furnished proof of being at the top of their form this season. Reremoana's winning feats this season include the Palmerston North Stakes under 9.1, and the Egmont Flying Handicap under 9.9.

Hynanna's victories include the Egmont and Taranaki Cnp9, in which he carried the respective imposts of 8.13 and 9.6-t Star Stranger placed the A.R.C. Handicap and "Wellington Cup to his credit under the respective imposts of 9.4 aiul 9.8.

Rapier has the record of winning five of the eight races in which he contested this eeason—the New Zealand Cud under 7.12 and the Auckland Cup under 8.10 ranking as his leading performances.

WINNING TWO-YEAR-OLDS. The two-year-old Mollison having won stakes to the value of £6639 up to the present stage of his career it is quite possible for the Seremond gelding to beat the record put np last year by Royal Feast, for he claims engagements in the Ascot Vale Stakes, A.J.C. Siree' Produce Stakes, and A.J.C. Champagne Stakes, the combined prize money attached to which will not be less than £9OOO. The following are the respective amounts that have been won by leading two-year-olds in Australia during the past four seasons:— 1923-24—Heroic (by Va-lais), £ll,BOl.

MISCELLANEOUS NOTES. Napier advices to hand" credit v the two-year-old Raaoay with training on splendidly, and the prediction is offered that the son of Lord Quex will play an important part at the forthcoming meeting at Trentham.

Silvius and Spearfelt are out of commission, and Pantheon is in New South Wales. Trivalve will not encounter any opponents of note.

George Duller, one of England's leading horsemen in hurdle events, is Btated to have received an offer of £3OOO as a retainer to go to America to ride for a prominent sportsman in that country this year. The sum named is stated to be the largest retainer ever offered to a hurdle rece rider.

Sea Money, who won the Australian Cup yesterday, had very little previously to his credit, which fact, it would be recognised, was well established by reason of the impost allotted to him being only 21b above the minimum. The field that contested this year's Australian Cup can be voted one of the poorest that has ever contested the long-distance handicap at Flemington.

The Eangitero—Tangimoana gelding The Swell, who won the Kaitoke Handicap (7 furlongs) at Dannevirke last week. 13 given credit for a szood performance, for he carried 9.1 and won comfortably in the good time of 1.27 J. A perusal of The Swell's performances since he made a reappearance on the scene at Taranaki last December reveals that be has' raced very consistently. After running third in the Warea Stakes he went on to Stratford and won two highweight handicaps. Then at the Wellington meeting be was third in both the Apprentices' Plate and the Duro CiiP. At, the Taranaki autumn meeting he ran a second, and going on to Woodville he was second in the President's Handicap and third in the Mahnrahara Handicap.
