SHOW ABANDONED.
DECISION AT MATAMATA.
LACK OF INTEREST SHOWN*
[BY telegraph.—-own correspondent.]
✓ MATAMATA, Tuesday
A decision to abandon the 1927-28 show was made at a meeting of the executive committee of the Matamata Agricultural and Pastoral Association last evening. This course was taken after a long discussion upon the paucity of entries, and the lack of interest displayed by the farmers in the show, which was to have been held on March 13. The members present said they could not see any hepe of running another show, with the entries more than £3O behind the total of last year, and no competition at all in many events, except at a heavy loss. They therefore decided to take drastic action.
In all probability the step taken will mean that the association will wind up its affairs and go out of existence. The two main causes of the present situation were thought to be the passing of people's interest from horses to motorcars, and the fact that dairy farmers are now breeding solely for production, and not for show purposes, the two types being dissimilar.
