COTTAGE HOSPITAL MEMORIAL SUNSHINE VERANDAH OPENED. [BY TELEGRAPH.——OWN CORRESPONDENT.] KAWHIA, Monday. A large crowd assembled at the Kawhia Cottage Hospital yesterday afternoon, for the "official opening of a; "Sunshine Verandah" as a memorial to the late* Mrs. Walter Morgan and Mr. W. J. Shaw. Among those present were Messrs. Campbell Johnstone (chairman), G. S. Clark, F. J. Potts and Mrs. Sims, of the Waikato Hospital Board, Dr. Gower, medical superintendent, and Matron Iveddie, of tho Waikato Hospital. Mr. N. A. Mason, chairman of the Medical Association, who presided, welcomed the visitors, and briefly outlined the early history of the institution. He referred in grateful terms to the work of Mrs. Morgan and Mr. Shaw, who were largely instrumental in tho establishment of the cottage hospital. Mr. A. N. Babbage, chairman of the Kawhia County Council, endorsed Mr. Mason's remarks, and other speakers paid a tribute to the untiring offoits of Mrs. Morgan and Mr. J. Shaw. Reference was made to tho value of the Cottage Hospital to the district, and its capable management by Sister Reidy and nursing staff. In formally opening the Sunshine Verandah, Mr. Campbell Johnstone congratulated tho Kawhia residents on the possession of such a fine little hospital. The institution, both inside and out, reflected the greatest credit to Sister Reidy, and although it appeared to be little used at present, it was always' an insurance against emergency. The Waikato Hospital Board was always prepared to give requests from Kawhia the greatest consideration, for the good reason that its residents wore always prepared to assist substantially, both by .personal help and monetarily. Messrs. (Hark and Pods and Mrs. Sims also spoke briefly, while Dr. Cower paid a glowing tribute to the manner m which the hospital and its grounds was being maintained, and the personal assistance the staff always received from Kawhia people. Messrs. Wallis, Morgan and •H. Shaw briefly responded on behalf of their respective families for the tributes which had been paid.
