NEW ZEALAND IRON.
PRODUCT FROM ONAKAKA. SHIPMENT FOR AUSTRALIA. [DY TELEGRAPH.—-OWN COItHESPONDEST.] WELLINGTON, Mcmday. An interesting shipment was taken by the Union Company's steamer Karetu which sailed to-night for Melbourne and Adelaide. The vessel carried a consignment of 500 tons of pig iron for Melbourne. This was loaded in the Onakaka roadstead on Saturday, being the product of the Onakaka iron fields. It is stated that the duty charged on this shipment under the Commonwealth tariff is £3 per ton. The Karetu also loaded at Wellington a fairly large shipment of wool, part of which is to be transhipped in Australia for Genoa, while the balance is, for coilsumption by Australian woollen mills. In addition the steamer took away several hundred bales of flax which will ho manufactured into binder twine at Melbourne. L \ * .
