HELENSYILLE SHOW.

high quality of stock. MOST SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE. ENTRIES CONSTITUTE RECORD. Exceptionally good quality characterised the majority of the exhibits at the 29th annual show of the Helensvilie Agricultural and Pastoral Association, held at Helensvilie South yesterday. Favoured with ideal weather, the success of the show was doubly assured. Record entries had been received i© nearly every section and this, combined with an unusually large attendance from the surrounding districts and crowds of excursionists from the city and suburbs, made the> fixture one of the biggest and most successful for many years. Entries eclipsed the number received in previous years in nearly all classes. Reflections of the prolonged dry spell were not very apparent in the cattle pens, the condition of the majority of the exhibits being good. It was, however, obvious that the reason some breeders had not allowed their stock to be exhibited was because tht animals were lacking in show-ring form. Draught stock was well represented and the animals were in a condition that would have thrown, credit on any metropolitan show. The champion pedigree mare, Nicholls Bros.' Lady Marcellus, was a fine example of first-class heavy draught stock. The reserve champion, Prince, shown by the Waitemata County Council as a gelding of stock other than pedigree, could have been paraded with confidence at a Royal Show. Although the medium draught classes were not well patronised, the standard of the horses was high. Harness horses, both medium and light, were very fair. Excellent quality marked the saddle horse and pony classes where entries were firm, especially in the hack competitions. The champion was a hack, owned by Mr. T. H. Hawes. Miss Christina Sutherland's mare, Verona, was adjudged the champion hunter from an impressive class. Cattle classes were well filled anff the quality generally was oven auti good. Entries of registered milking Shorthorns, grade Shorthorns and pedigree Friesians occupied fn e pages of the catalogue. The Shorthorns were of a very high standard and wore representative oF some of the best large herds of the breed in New Zea : land. Stud and dairy stock were in the' best of condition, in spite of the dry weather. Hanson Brothers' Dominion Lord, the champion bull was an excellent specimen of the breed, as was Ellam Twylish, the champion cow. Grade Shorthorn ctws, heifers, calves and yearlings were a feature of the show, although the entry was small. Pedigree Friesians were numerous, an J the quality excellent. Nicholls Brothers Eanfield Netherland King won the championship, with Hobson Farm, Limited's, Springbank Zozo Mercena reserve champion. Hobson Farm, Limited, won the championship in the cow class with Garvendale Princess Segis, with Springbank Belle Westnort reserve. Jorsev pedigree cattle were fair and numerous in numbers, the heifers very fair. Sheep were not very well represented numerically, but what was lacked in quantity was amply made up in quality which,, genernllv, was superior, Southdowns were very fair and made a good showing. The types in the Romney "classes were splendid. There was no'doubt that the pens held the best sheep seen at the show for years. The Southdown breeder, Mr. H. McCarroll, exhibited halfbred limbs and ewes, suitable for freezing, which could cnly be described as the ideal type for the Smithfield markets. Fat sheep, crossbreeds and Corriedales were good. Dairy produce, vegetables, fnjjt ana flowers were plentiful and the quality very fair. Following is the list of awards. — HORSES.
