PLAY ASSOCIATION.

CONCLUSION OF SEASON. SPORTS AT CARLAW PARK. A gathering of children in Carlaw Park yesterday marked the closing of the Auckland Play and Recreation Association's season. There was a large number present from the various groups under the control of the association. A programme of sports events gave every child an opportunity for enjoyment. Many interesting competitions and races were held, including a tyre race for senior and junior boys, a senior and junior sack race, a relay race and a chariot race for boys and girls, a senior and junior wheelbarrow race, a paper race, a three-legged race, and a bicycle race. A skipping competition was held for girls, and captain ball, valley ball arid cricket matches were held. An indication of the useful activities of the children was afforded by a display of articles made within the last few weeks. These included crochet bags, raflia work and articles made from waste cloth. A particularly fine piece of work was shown in seme weaving with wool for the upperwork on a slipper. The work of one enterprising boy was shown in a complete Red Indian's dress made from sacks. Prizes were presented to the winners in the various events. Mrs. N. E. Ferner, president of the association, said a successful year had been spent and the children had undoubtedly enjoyed the games provided. In a short address, Mr. E. C. Cutten referred to the great importance of the work undertaken. The cap for the most points gained at the sports was won by the Potter's Park group with 35 pointsi. Carlaw Park group gained 28 points, and Victoria Park, 18 points. Carlaw Park wort the Volley Ball Cup; Victoria Park, the Junior Cricket Cup, and the Captain Ball Cup, and Potter's Park the Senior Cricket Cup.
