BOWLING TOURNAMENT.

AUCKLAND CENTRE EVENT. FINAL GAMES ON SATURDAY. LAMB PROVES SUCCESSFUL, The Anal game of the annual tournament of the Auckland Centre of the Dominion Bowling Association was played on Saturday and resulted in a win for Lamb, Carlton, who came through the iuter-sectii>n play without a defeat. Some j very fine play resulted in the semi-final I match between Lamb and Clarke, Carli lon, the former gaining another onepoint victory. Following are the results: SEMI-FINAL. Sidler, Buckle, Pearce, Randall (Rocky Nook), ' 20, v. Rowe, Frost, HcSsking (Carlton), 12. Brittain, Gladding, JVV. Coltman, S. Lamb (Carlton), 21, v. Bates, Deare, Kilgour, Clarke (Carlton), 20. FINAL. Lamb, 21, v. Randall, 19. In the first game the Carlton team, playing steady bowls, had the better of the early heads. Hallway through the scores were level. On the 11th head the Carlton skip was unfortunate in taking out his saving shot and Rocky Nook notched a five. Encouraged by this good fortune the Rocky Nook players played up well, while their opponents went off somewhat.' The heads that lay in Hosking's favour when the skips changed over were generally turned against him by the aggressive play of Randall. The game ended on the 20th head. A thrilling game was witnessed between Lamb and Clarke. Up to the eighth head Clarke's team held the advantage. By the aid of a couple of fours a lead of sis points was established, the score being 13—7. From this point on, however, each head was keenly contested. The scores were equal on the 16th head. Clarke put on a couple of singles, to which Lamb replied with a nice three, which put him one up on the 19th head. A single on the next head made him two „up, with one head to play.' Deare, who was playing a. fine No. 2 game, gave Clarke the shot, but Gladding had a close second. Kilgour made two good attempts to get second shot and his bowls went into handy positions. W. Coltman played for position. Lamb tried to block the draw with his first, shot and Clarke,just failed with his first bowl. With his final bowl he just passed Lamb's short bowl on the way up and, having a beautiful strength, ran on to push the shot bowl through for two and a tie. The extra head created excitement. There was not much' in it when the three's came on to play. Kilgour got the _ shot about a foot sway. Clarke drew right on to kitty with his first bowl and the game looked fairly safe. Lamb playect a fine running shot and was fortunate in taking off the shot bowl clean, but appeared to be still one down. Clarke's last bowl was a shade too strong. Lamb made a brilliant shot with his" last bowl and landed alongside kitty, which put the issue beyond doubt THE FINAL GATvIE. ' The contestants were now reduced to two, Lamb with two lives and Randall with one life. The rink was widened to championship class and specially rolled for the play. A tricky wind at the western end and the fast green had the competitors worried on the first head, a short to medium one. Turner took the shot with Gladding in second place, a position which the skips did not alter. On the second head Coltman put the kitty back, but still lay one down. Randall promoted with his first bowl and counted his own as well, but Lamb drew a beauty right up to the ditch, making the scores one all. Sidler lay two on a long head. Gladding prcmaoted Brittain's short bowl into shot. Pearce ran the shot out and Lamb and Randall did not improve. Rocky Nook, 2; Carlton, 1. On the fourth bend Sidler had the sHot, rt'.vsv, Brittain being over. Pearce dr«sv a couple more. Coltman drove and ionk Randall 'drew another shot arid Lamb, being short with both bowls, Kocky Nock scored jour. The next head was a wide one. until Gladding drew shot. Coltman got second shot with a rub. Both skips were short with the first bowls. Randall 1R with his second, but Lamb got the shot. The next head saw Brittai# draw a good one but Sidler beat it. Brittain pushed his opponent through for two and Gladding made it three. Pearce took one out and Randall trailed kitty and got two, the scores being B—28 —2 in Rodky s favour. The seventh head was a wide one until Gladding drew a toucher and counted two shots. Randall drew a nice second, but Lamb beat it and got two. „ The Scores Even. On the eighth head Sidler got shot with his second bowl, but Gladding beat it with a toucher. Buckle had two close essays to remove but failed. Pearce got the shot with a rub off the second bowl, a position which was never disturbed.— Rocky Nook, 9; Carlton, 4. Gladding and Coltman both drew shots on a scattered ninth head. Lamb got a third with his last bowl and Randall failed to save. Sidler had a toucher on the next head but Brittain beat it. The former came again and secured shot. The second and third players did not improve the position. Lamb had two run shots, the second one just missing. Rocky Nook, 10; Carlton, 7. Brittain beat Sidler for shot on the eleventh head and Coltman got in a second. Lamb drew the absolute with his last bowl and got three, making the scores 10 all. The twelfth head saw Brittain's toucher rested out by Sidler, but the latter gave , shot away with his next bowl. Gladding drew a toucher, a performance which Coltman also repeated. Lamb's last bowl added another and blocked the head. Randall took two out with a drive, leaving Carlton two up. On the thirteenth head Sidler's second bowl got the shot, but Gladding drew second. Pearcs trailed for two. Lamb rested shot bowl for shot, but Randall drew the actual shot amid loud applause. Gladding brought the kitty back for three in the next head with a well-timed firm draw. Coltman drew two and Pearce pushed an enemy bowl into scoring position. Carlton now lay six. Randall saved two with his first bowl, but was short with his second, Carlton thus getting four. The Final Stages. Sidler lay Shot on the fifteenth head, but Gladding sent kitty back and still lay one down. Pearce drew a nice second. Both skips failed to alter the position. Both leads got touchers on the nineteenth head, but Sidler lay shot. Coltman drew a beauty. Randall's first bowl v?as a good one and just failed to alter {.he position, but his second was a fine shot and he notched three points. Carlton, 18; Rocky Nook. 16. By the nineteenth head play was very interesting as.it was anybody's game at this stage. Brittain drew almost on the white. Coltman made two of it. Pearce ran narrow with both bowls and the skips did not alter the head, Carlton leading by 20—15. Carlton lay well on the next head until Pearce rested shot bowl with a rathei narrow shot. Lamb trailed kitty away with a fine shot. Randall made two good efforts to remove but failed, Carlton securing one. In the final head Sidler pushed his own short bowl up to shot. Pearce made three of it with a fine draw. Lamb came into the head and got shot. Randall drove to burn the head, but the white went back and he lay three. With his last bowl he endeavoured to push up some short bowls for the requisite points to tie but failed, and a hard-fought game and championship honours went to Lamb's Carlton four by 21 points to 19.
