THEFT FROM EMPLOYERS. YOUNG SALESMAN'S OFFENCE. FAILURE OF LENIENCY PLEA. Failure to account to his employers for a total of £46, thereby committing theft, was admitted .by Leonard George Brassell, aged 31, salesman, in the Police Court on Saturday. It was stated accused was at present completing a sentence for another offence. In pleading for leniency, accused said he was married. Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M.: That makes no difference. You should have thought of your wife before you committed this crime. On one charge Brassell was sentenced to one. month's imprisonment while on each of the others he was convicted and ordered to make restitution. Said to have been arrested at two o'clock on Saturday morning in very suspicious circumstances, Frederick George Mayes, aged 24, and Clyde Chirk, aged 18, appeared charged with damaging a coin receptacle and with stealing 2s Bd. A separate charge against Mayes was that lie was found in possession of housebreaking implements. When asking for a remand until Thursday, Sub-Inspector McCarthy said that if bail were allowed it should be substantial. Bail was refused in tho case of Mayes but was allowed to Clark, who was saul to be under the influence of his confederate. The remand was granted. Pleas of guilty were entered by Thomas Frederick Buckingham, aged 35, fireman, and Lees Trevelyn Devlin, aged 30, setiman, charged with fighting in Nelson Street. Each accused was fined 30s. Charged with failing to keep the terms of his release on probation, Stanley Henry Bevan, aged 36, driver, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon in six months. IDLE AND DISORDERLY. .TERMS OF IMPRISONMENT. Sentences of three months' imprisonment were passed on Elizabeth Carswell, aged 50, Eileen Marmont, aged 36, and Alexander Mellis, aged 64, who each pleaded guilty in the Police Court yesterday to charges of being idle and disorderly in that they had no means of support. Charged with committing an indecent act, James Mathieson., aged 28, labourer, who arrived in Auckland from the country for the holidays, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment. To enable further inquiries to be made, another week's remand wss granted in the case of Lawrence Mackenzie, aged 41, labourer, who was charged with assaulting his wife, Honor Mackenzie, while she was asleep. In- asking for the remand, Sub-Inspector McCarthy said tho case had assumed a more serious aspect and detectives were investigating. Two labourers, Tennes Tennessen, aged 45, and James Moyland, aged 45, were fined £2 and £1 respectively for fighting in Grey's Avenue. On a charge of using obscene language at the railway entrance, John Keith Hewson, aged 23, electrician, was fined £2. He was fined 5s for drunkenness and 10s for a breach of his prohibition order. Appearing on a charge of having assaulted another man, Ca/ri Wilson, aged 30, labourer, was fined £l. Pleas of guilty were entered by Charles Mawkes, aged 49, seaman, charged with being drunk in Hobson Street and with casting offensive matter. On the first count accused was fined 5s and on the second £l. Dennis Campbell, aged 35, carpenter, was fined £2 for casting offensive matter in Fort Street.
