DRAINAGE WORKS DAMAGED
MOTOR CHAMBER FLOODED.
DISCOVERY AT LOWER HUTT. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON. Wednesday. Serious damage was done to the Randwick Road sewerage works at Lower Hutt between 8 p.m. on Sunday and 8 a.m. on Monday by the wilful-flooding of the motor chamber of the pumping station. A hose was inserted in the air ventilator and water from a 3in. hydrant turned on and left running. The electric motors were badly damaged, but fortunately there was a . standby hydraulic plant which was immediately put into action, otherwise serious results would have occurred throughout a large part of the borough through the overflow of the drains. The Borough Council has offered a substantial reward for the discovery of the person or persons who committed the act.
