There was an exceptionally large attendance at the Hamilton Bowling Club's greens to-day, when the South Auckland Bowling Centre's tournament was continued. The weather remained fine throughout the day, although rain threatened and a high easterly wind made accurate play difficult. Keen interest was taken in the games by the numerous spectators. An exciting finish was witnessed in thr match between Coombes (Claudelands) and Chapman (Hamilton East) in section A. Coombes was four down on the 20th head and needed five to win. with Chapman's first bowl in the last head. Coombes held four but Chapman had 4ft. in which to place his last bowl as second to save. He fell short and Coombes. drawing another counter with his last bowl, secured the requisite five to give him the victory. Tense excitement prevailed while the last few bowls were being played and there was a spontaneous outburst, of applause when Coombes succeeded. Seven-head games will be played to-mor-row to determine the winner of section A. The finals will also be played to-morrow.
TOURNEY AT KAIKOHE.
RUSSELL TEAM'S SUCCESS,
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] RUSSELL, Wednesday. A bowling tournament was held at Kaikolie, Bay of Islands, when teams from Kaitaia, Kawakawa and Russell competed for the Buxton Shield. The Kawakawa and Russell teams met in the final and Russell won the match and the shield, 20—15. The Kaikohe Club is to be congratulated on its excellent new green and pavilion.
