AN "AT HOME."
A PICTURESQUE SETTING. In view of her departure for England early in the New Year Mrs. H. 0. Nolan entertained a large number of her friends at an "At Home" at Ardwall, Mount St. John, yesterday afternoon. The weather was so cielightful that the function took the form of a garden party and the guests roamed at will through the beautiful grounds, which, in the brilliant sunshine, looked most attractive. Flower-beds ablaze with gay blooms gave a vivid splash of colour to the smooth lawns and sloping terraces round the house, and, in the rustic garden below, with its winding paths under great shady trees plots of antirrhinums, stocks, and roses were to be found in a delightful colour contrast. Indoors the rooms were charmingly decorated with a wealth of lovely flowers. In the various sitting rooms tall crystal vases of purple irises and golden yellow lilies with bowls of roses were artistically arranged, and in the dining room the teatable was attractively decorated with fiat bowls of sweet peas around a high-stand-ing centrepiece of pink sweet peas. A marquee off the verandah was also gaily decked with palms and bowls of flowers. Mrs. Nolan received her guests wearing a frock of black and rose-figured crepe de chine with bands of rose georgette and accordeon-pleated skirt. Miss Dorothy Nolan wore a frock of ecru lace over georgette and a wide-brimmed hat of almond green v/ith band of velvet ribbon.
