BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP.

DEMPSEY-TUNNEY CONTEST. INTERESTING FILM RECORD. At a private screening at the Tivoli Theatre yesterday the official film record of the recent heavy-weight boxing championship contest between Tunnev and Jack Dompsey was shown for the first time in Auckland. The picture, which is to commence showing at the Princess and Tivoli Theatres to-morrow, and at Everybody's Theatre on Friday, gives a most striking and detailed view of the great contest blow by blow. The opening scenes show the Soldiers* Field, Chicago, where the crowd of 150,000 spectators assembled, and many of tho notable figures present, including the Mayor of Chicago. "Big Bill" Thompson, Jack Sharkey and Jim Jeffries. Tho cameras were mounted on a special platform. and the ring, bathed in the glare of powerful floodlights; stands out in clear-cut relief against the background of darkness beyond. v'„. Throughout the ri;i»:%h the contestants ara seen plainly at iiose quarters, and every phase of 'the struggle is clear, the bout being shown in detail round by round. After quiet lighting in the first two rounds, when both men boxedi cautiously, the encounter works up to the climax in the sensational seventh round. The actual knock-out of Tunney is given at close quarters by slow-motion photography, and the audience clearly sees Dernpsey land his terrific right, followed by five other punches with both hands before Tunney reaches the floor. The referee warns Dompsey back into a neutral corner, while Tunney crouches motionless, and then begins the count. From the picture Tunney appears to be fully conscious while the count proceeds, and, watching closely the" referee's arm, gets to his feet as nine is called. He then evades a savage attack by Dempsev and the round ends. In the last two rounds Dempsev is outpointed and driven round the ring, seeming to barely escape defeat by a knock-out.
