THE BASIS FOR RATING. BOARD TO TAKE POLL. The Papakura Town Board met on Monday evening, Mr. James McCall presiding. The board, ,on the recommenaditon of the Fire Brigade Management Committee, resolved to accept a small strip of property owned by the Papakura Methodist Trust, adjacent to the fire station, on a lease of live years, with a right of renewal tor another live years, at an annual rental of 6s per annum. The strip is a rather unsightly one and is to be laid out by the Beautifying Society. The proposal to establish a district high school at Papakura has reached the stage when further investigation has been promised by the Minister of Education. In a letter to the Town Board he stated that the whole question oi the provision of facilities for secondary education in and round the City of Auckland was being reviewed by the department, and at the present stage a decision regarding the Application for a district high school for Papakura could not be made. A petition signed by 141 ratepapers demanding a poll on the question of rating on the unimproved valuo system was presented. As the number of petitioners was well over 15 per cent, required by law, the board resolved to proceed at oneo with a poll, which will take place within a month. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs. H. E. McEntee, G. Boagey and the Rev. W. 0. Wood., was appointed to investigate the question of town planning and to report to the board in three months.
