SHOOTING FATALITY.

EX-MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT. BODY FOUND AT RESIDENCE. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WAIPUKURAU, Monday. Tho family of Mr. Charles Lewis heard the sound of a gunshot about seven O'clock this morning, and on investigating they found Mr. Lewis lying dead outside a window. There was a rifle between his legs, and a bullet wound in the head. Mr. Lewis, who was a well-known settlor in the district, has been in a weak state of health lately. He was formerly a member of Parliament for Christchurch in 1896-1902, and for Courtenav in 19021908. Ho. was Ihairman of the Canterbury College Board of Governors in 1904-7. Since his retirement from Parliament he had been farming in Hawke's Bay. Ho leaves a widow and a family of four daughters and three sons.
