A WHALE CHASE.

SINGULAR COINCIDENCE. AN EXCITING INCIDENT. A singular coincidence occurred at Eden, New South Wales, recently. While Sydney station 2BL was broadcasting a description of Eden and of a whale chase at Twofold Bay, a whale chase was actually in progress there. A whale and her calf had been sighted, and in the afternoon was seen bailed up in North Bay by " killers," which subjected them to ferocious and relentless attacks. Soon afterwards whalers, under the command of Master Whaler George Davidson, came on the scene, and quickly made fast with a harpoon to tho mother whale, which was sounding to great depths in an endeavour to outwit the " killers " and escape to sea. Against the combined attacks of the " killers " and the whalers, tho efforts of the wounded whale proved futile, and although it forced its way past South Head, the whale was killed near the shore of Tiniki, and was anchored for the night. Next morning iit was found that, in accordance with their custom, the "killers" during the night had appropriated as their share of tho trophy of the chase their especial tit-bit, the whale's tongue. During the attack on its mother the whale's calf escaped to sea.
