COUNSEL AND THE BIBLE. BOOK OF HIS ANCESTORS. Laws laid down in the Bible were quoted in the Wanganui Supreme Court l»>st week in the course of the hearing of a case of alleged sheep stealing. Mr. Louis Cohen, counsel for accused, in tho midst of an eloquent address to the jury. In opening his remarks on tt fresh theme he stated, " Let me quote from the booK of my ancestors." Proceeding, he commenced to read Deuteronomy, chapter 19, verse 14, which ©pens: " Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour's land mark which they of old ttime have set in thine inheritance." His Honor, interrupting: We are not administering the laws of tho Jews in this Court; we are administering British Jaws. To read such passages is to read (Something irrelevant and misleading. Mr. Cohen submitted that however misleading the law of the Bible was, it was !lhe foundation of t!»e law of the land.
