(VISIT OF MB. L.'S. AMERY. 'ARRIVAL THIS MORNING, BUSY DAYS IN AUCKLAND. WELCOME FROM PRIME MINISTER. 'Auckland will to-day have tlic honour bf -welcoming tlio Hon. L. S. Amery, Secretary of State for the Dominions, the first Minister of the British Government to visit this country while in office. Mr. Amery, accompanied by Mrs. Amery and his staff, are passengers by the Niagara, which arrives from Sydney early this morning. They will be met by the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildou, and Mayoress, Mrs. A. D. Campbell. A civic reception at the Town Hall at noon is the first of a number of public, semi-public and private functions which have been arranged in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Amery. Tlio Minister will attend the Rotary Club Hunch'eon at 12.45 p.m., and address the members. Afterwards, accompanied by the Mayor find Mayoress, the visitors will drive to the top of Mount Eden before leaving for the Ellerslie racecourse, where will be held a reception under the auspices of the Auckland branches of the Victoria Jjeague, Overseas Club, Royal Colonial Institute, and the Navy League. This evening there will be an "At Jfomfc" at the Town Hall. Guests are requested to note they will bo announced from the invitation cards sent ©ut, and should bring them. To-morrow a luncheon, arranged by fhe Auckland Chamber of Commerce, the Manufacturers' Association, and the Employers' Association, at the Town Hall, will afford a further opportunity for Mr. Amery to address and exchange ideas with business men on industrial development and trade within the Emfire. An "At Home," serving the dual purpose of welcoming the distinguished visitors and celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the foundation of the Auckland Club, will be given by its president end members, at the club houso at 3 ©'clock to-morrow afternoon. In the evening Mr. Amery will be the puest of the Northern Club at a private dinner. ■ . The Prime Minister, Mr. Coates, who will extend a welcome to Mr. Amery, on behalf of the New Zealand Government, arrives this morning by train from Wellington, accompanied by Mrs. Coates. Mr. J. Hislop, Under-Secretary for Internal 'Affairs, arrived at Auckland over the Week-end in order to bt* present at the public functions arranged. Mr. and Mrs. Amery and party, and Mr. and Mrs. Coates will stay at the {Grand Hotel. It is possible Mr. and Mrs. Coates will (return South this evening. Mr., and Mrs. 'Amery and party leave Auckland by train ©n Wednesday morning. Mr. Amery, who is an enthusiastic mountaineer, has expressed a desire to climb Mount Egmont while in Taranaki this week, and arrangements have been Stnade accordingly. The civic reception at the Town Hall to-day will be broadcast by IYA, which is especially opening on its "silent" day (for the occasion.
