BOOKMAKING CHARGES.
TWO WOMEN ARRESTED. COURT HELD ON RACECOURSE. I ' - m UNUSUAL PROCEDURE. A unusual spectacle was witnessed by a few at Alexandra Park, where the Otahuhu Trotting Clui's meeting was held at -Saturday, when two women—-one middle-aged and the 'other quite youngwere charged before Mr. John Donald, J.P., with bookmaking. Detectives arrested the women on the course about three o'clock. Immediately the charge was drafted, and at the request of Chief-Detective Cummings, Mr. Donald, who was on the course, opened a Police Court in a small room on the grounds. Accused were admitted to bail of £25 each and directed to appear in the Police Court to-day. The procedure j|s not usual, but was adopted for the sake of convenience and despatch, no constable being available for escort duty.
