OBITUARY.
CAPTAIN E. STOTT. FORTY YEARS IN UNION LINE. After undergoing an. operation a faw weeks ago Captain E. Stott died in a private hospital at Auckland on Saturday afternoon. Captain Stott was a wellknown mariner in New Zealand, having been 40 years in the Union Company's service, ashore and afloat. He came to New Zealand in 1885 ws a junior officer on the company's steamer Mararoa. Later he was chief officer of the steamers Manapouri, Arawata and Taieri. His first command in the company was the small steamer Maori in the ir.ter-island trade. Ha was also master o£ the Taviuni, Wanaka, Moura, WaiLora, Manapouri, Moeraki, and- for a short period he was temporarily in command of the Royal Mail liner Makura. In 1909 Be joined the company's shore staff, and was appointed marine* superintendent at Wellington. Nine years later he wa& transferred to a similar position" i at Auckland, and in 1925 he retired on superannuation. He wa3 born at Aberdeen 65 years ago. Captain Stott never married. He is survived by two sisters, Miss L. W. I. Stotfc, who is matron at Wellington Hospital, and Miss A. Stott, of Auckland.
