BEQUEST OF £60,000.

GIFT TO UNIVERSITY. MR, R. J. GLEDDON'S WILL. By the will of Mr. Robert John Gleddon, who died recently, at the age of 71, the University of Western Australia will benefit by about £60,000. All his real and personal estate is bequeathed, to the university, subject only to certain trusts. To his. sister, Mrs. Annie Norrie, of Bournemouth, England, ho left an annuity of £400; and to a distant relative and an old friend £l5O and £2OO respec-, tively. Subject to these trusts the estate will accumulate for ten years, due to his faith in the growth and development -of Western Australia, and will then be devoted to the provision of scholarships, including travelling and post graduate fellowships in applied science, more particularly relating to surveying, engineering, or mining, or cognate subjects. The late Mr. Gleddon made a preliminary survey of Coolgardie and laid out the s.ite of Kalgoorlie. Ho was boni in England. He spent many years in Germany, Finland, and other Continental countries, and spoke several languages. He came to Australia about 1890, and secured a licence as a surveyor in Queensland, crossing to Western Australia early in 1892. Mr. Gleddon remained on the Kalgoorlie goldfields until ISOO, when he retired, and, accompanied by his wife, travelled extensively.
