TRANSPORT RIVALRY.
GROWING MOTOR TRAFFIC. CONCERN OF RAILWAYMEN. [BT TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WELLINGTON, Thursday. Tbe executive council of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants of New Zealand, at its quarterly meeting, now in progress, passed. title following resolution: "This executive council draws tbe attention of members of the society to the ever-increasing amount of traffic secured by motors, to the detriment of the railway service, which may affect the livelihood of some railway employees; goods earned by road transport are usually those carried A, B, and C rates, while the department is compelled to receive consignments of other classes of goods which are not so remunerative. "We believe that good results would be obtained if all employees reciprocated with those traders who patroniss the railway service, and we urge upon the Government the economic necessity of nationalising the transport industry."
