REPORTS OF COMMITTEES. ADVOCATES OF RESEARCH. (Received October 28, 5.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. LONDON. Oct. 27. The High Commissioner for New Zealand, Sir James Parr, has asked (he Imperial AgricuJt irai Conference on behalf of the Prim Minister of the Dominion, Mr C'oates, to include New Zealand in it. itinera*y when the conference is held in Australia in 1332. Australian and New Zealand delegates reported that, the Empire industries associated with fruit, whether canned, dried or otherwise, were at present comparatively undeveloped in a technical sense The Empire fruitgrower and preserver were more unfavourably situated than their competitois in the United States, on which country they still relied mainly for technical knowledge. They were almost entirely dependent on America for machinery and processes of preservation. The Dominion representatives advocated research and advisory work within the Empire. They proposed an Imperial Horticulture. Committee in Britain, with sub-committees overseas, but the conference deleted thn in view of its previous decision tc establish a chain of bureaux in the correspondence centres. The chairman oi the Plant Breeding Committee recommended that the existing institutions a* Cambridge and Aberyst with should become clearing-houses of Empire information relating to cereals and herbage The chairman of the Dairying Committees reported in favour of using the funds of the Marketing Board for joint, actior in Britain and the Dominions in dairyin, research He suggested an interchange ol British and Dominion dairying experts.
