RACING IN BRITAIN.
TOTALISATOR PROPOSAL. JOCKEY CLUB APPROVES. (British Official Wireless.) A and N.Z. RUGBY. Oct. 27. An important decision was made today by the English Jockey Club It approved the recommendations of a special committee which had been appointed to inquire how betting might best tie made to contribute to the maintenance of the sport. l'hese recommendations were: (1) That an alteration in the law should be sough', to permit of a totalisatoi machine or a pan-mutue) being installed on racecourses. (2) I hot bookmakers, who at present constitute practically the sole medium of betting on a racecourse, shall charged fees on a graduated scale.
In approving the recommendations the club resolved that steps should be taken to give effect to them. It is understood that a bill will be introduced immediately in Parliament with this object. The proposal to establish the totalisator will, of course, meet with strenuous opposition from the bookmakers, and the subject promises to be a topic of keen discussion in turf circlos.
