It is announced here that the Postal Department has accepted a contract for a daily mail service between Te Awamutu and Kawhia, from January 1, 1928, thus again making Te Awamutu the postal centre on the Main Trunk railway for Kawhia district. It .is understood the mails will be dispatched from Te Awamutu each morning, and from Kawhia each evening, the latter being forwarded on by the outward trains. This will be a much needed facility for Kawhia district residents, and is made possible by the improvements being effected to the main road between Pironjjia and Kawhia. Thcrs is about six miles of unmetalled, road near Ngutunui that has proved an almost insuperable obstacle in wet weather. Arrangements have now been made for metalling that lencth this summer with a light coating, which will have the top course added after next winter.
