STATEMENT BY SHIPOWNERS. LOCATING THE THIEVES. 'Received October 27, 5.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. LONDON, Oct. 26. Officials of the Peninsular and Oriental Company, referring to the theft of some of the registered mail from the liner Cathay, which was discovered when the vessel reached Australia on October 24, say they have had no reports of thefts in Britain or whiie the mails were being taken across France, or on board the ships. They hint that the pillage must have occurred between Fremantle and Sydney.
