TROUBLESOME HAWKER.
ONE YEAR'S IMPRISONMENT. ANNOYANCE TO HOUSEWIVES. Described as being "a menace to any community," William Brighting, aged 49, a hawker of tinware, was sentenced in tho i'olice Court yesterday on a charge of being a rogue and a vagabond, to 12 months' imprisonment, the maximum penalty. "Accused is a menace to all the married women in Mount Eden," said Sergeant Flannagan. "lie dumps his sack of tinware on Ihe doorsteps of the women's homes and refuses to leave until they buy something. If they do not, he becomes abusive and even threatens them." The sergeant added that when he arrested accused on Wednesday afternoon the two women at whose door accused was standing in Mount Eden, were in a state of collapse from fright. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.: There is only one thing to do with a man like accused. That is, to sentence him to imprisonment for the maximum term.
