EMPIRE'S PROSPERITY.

MR. ' AMERY HOPEFUL. A. and N.Z. MELBOURNE, Oct. 20. The Secretary of State for the Dominions, Mr. L. S. Amery, and Mrs. Amery arrived at Melbourne to-day. They were given a cordial reception, being met by the Prime Minister, Mr Bruce, and other members of the Federal and State Parliaments, While he has been in Victoria Mr. Amery has hinted strongly at the possibility of Britain's preferential tariff in favour of Australian dried fruits and wines being extended. In a speech at Geelong Mr. Amery said: "An immense prospect is opening before us. I am not content to agree that all we. have to do is to return to our pre-war prosperity. I believe, on the contrary, that the resources of Britain arc greater than ever they were before, and that the resources of Australia and the other Dominions can create a prosperity far greater than anything we knew before tlie war."
