ENTOMOLOGICAL RESEARCH
DR. TILLYARD'S ASSISTANCE. INVITATION FROM AUSTRALIA. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] NELSON. Tuesday. At the invitation of the Australian Federal Government, Dr. R. J Tillyard, of the Cawthron Institute, is due to leave Nelson to-morrow evening to join the steamer Marama at Wellington for Sydney. Dr Tillvard expects to be away about six weeks. The Prime Minister of Australia, Mr S M Bruce, sent a request by cablegram to the Cawthron trustees, asking for a visit from Dr. Tillvard for the purgose of conferring with the Australian ouncil of Scientific and Industrial Research on the organisation of entomological research in the Commonwealth, and, if possible, to meet the Secretary of State for the Dominions, Mr. L. 8 Amery, during the latter's tour of Australia, to discuss the same matter with him. Dr Tillvard hopes to obtain supplies of a valuable new insect enemy of ragwort, which has recently been discovered in Victoria, and to make further investigations into the problem of grass-grub, and possibiv apple leaf hopper He will lecture before the members of the Federal Parliament at Canberra on noxious weeds control by insects.
