YACHTSMEN'S CLUBHOUSE.
NEW QUARTERS SOUGHT. OARSMEN AND jUDGES BAY. A request that a site be granted it on the western slope oi freeman's Bay reclamation was received from the V icloria Cruising Club at a meeting of the Auckland Harbour board yesterday, i'he St. George's Rowing Club also asked the board to grant it a site on the eastern reclamation for its clubhouse, near the ai ea granted to the Akarana i.acht Club. i'he chairman, Mr. H. 11. Mackenzie, said it had ueeu suggested that the Victoria Cruising Club, which now had its quarters at Beaumont Street, should be accommodated at a site at the foot of iSew Street, but residents in that locality had objected to this to the City Council, which owned the riparian rights in the vicinity. Even if the New Street site were not acceptable, the boaid would probably be able to make arrangements to tin.* satisfaction ol the club. In any <:ase, the area suggested in Freercuir.'n Bay would cost it about £6OO a year, after rates had been paid. The St. George's Rowing Club wtott stating that the reclamation and embank merit across Judge's Bay made it impos sible for the club to carry on in its pre sent quarters. It had had its clubhouse in Judge's Bav for the past 35 years and it was considered that some provision should be made for a removal to more suitable quarters. It was decided to reply to the Victoria Cruising Club that its proposal for" an area in Freeman's Bay was unsuitable. The question of granting a site to the St. George's Rowing Clnh was to the board in committee.
