[BT TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] RAETIHI, Friday.

Trout fishing was discussed at a council meeting of the Waimarino Acclimatisation Spciety this week. In reply to protests made by local anglers in connection with spoon and minnow bait , fishing in the Tongariro River, the Minister of Internal Affairs had replied that it had been decided to issue regulations which reserved for fly fishing only that part of the Tongariro River from the bridge on the Taupo-Tokaanu Road to the lake, and a radius of 200 yds. of the months of. that river. After discussion it was decided to support the district anglers in their protest, and the secretary was appointed to represent - the society on a deputation to wait upon the Minister.

It was decided to support the Auckland Acclimatisation Society in urging the Government to pay 6d per pair for shags' feet. The secretary of the Auckland Society said that terrible havoc is wrought among both fresh-water and sea fish by shags. In reply to representations made to the Minister of Marine in connection with regulations restricting the use of natural bait for trout, fishing, the Minister replied that the society s regulations had been consolidated. It was not quite clear whether the baits as shown in the proposed draft regulations were to bo the baits for the Piopioto and Whakapapa. If the regulations were not suitable -/O the society it could suggest any necessary alterations when replying. The meeting decided to endorse the secretary's action regarding the fixing of points one mile above the Matapuna Bridge and five miles below, between which bait fishing restrictions will not be removed.
