HOSPITAL STORES STOLEN. ATTENDANT ADMITS OFFENCES. Two charges of the theft of various stores, valued at £4 lis Bd, from the Auckland Mental Hospital were admitted by Charles Mcorhouse, aged 34, in the Police Court yesterday. Chief-Detective Cummings said accused was a night attendant at the Mental Hospital. Stores had been missed for some time and, following complaints, a detective and constable arrested accused. Accused was a married man with two young children. He had a good character and was a gooJ attendant. The magistrate, Mr. Hunt, agreed to allow a certain amount of leniency in view of accused's character. A fine of £5 was imposed, accused being required to make good the losses.
"Accused is rather lucky he was not killed, for he staggered in front of a motor-car and was knocked down," said Senior-Sergeant Edwards, when Hugh Bell, aged 38, admitted being drunk in Swanson Street, the offence also involving a breach of his prohibition order. A fine of £5 was imposed. A Chinese, Lum Quay, pleaded guilty to a charge of outstaying a temporary permit. Mr. A. V. Pefcn, collector of customs, said a- present he did not wish to press for penalties, but as another large batch of Chinese was due shortly the charges would be pressed later. A remand was granted until Saturday to enable Quarto leave the country.
