DIAMOND RINGS STOLEN.

PONSONBY HOUSE THEFT.

SIX MONTHS' IMPRISONMENT. A charge of stealing two diamond rings valued at £45, the property of Pearl Cole, was admitted by Alfred Arthur Hinds, aged 49, in the Police Court yesterday. Accused was recently sentenced to three months' imprisonment for vagrancy. Chief-Detective Cummnigs said that on or about May 26 the complainant left two diamond rings on a dressing table at her house in Curran Street, Ponsonby. They were missing when she returned to get them. They had since been recovered.

The Magistrate, Mr. Hunt: This is the man who has been living with a girl and used to go out at night robbing larders. Accused said he did not rob larders.

The Magistrate: Well, you had a number of provisions in your home which you were not able to account for. You are about twice as old as the girl. Mr. Dickson, who appeared for accused, said the girl was placed in rather an unfortunate position She had been living with accused for some considerable time but, owing to the fact that her mother was missing, she could not marry. Sentence of six' months' imprisonment was imposed, to commence at the expiration of accused's present term.
