ROADS IN WAIMARINO.

REPAIRS BY DEPARTMENT. £BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] RAKTIHI. Thursday The following letter has been received ss the outcome of a petition to the Minister of Public Works, He:'.. K. S. Williarfts, by the settlers of the Mangatiti and Waipapa Valley Roads : It appears a certain amount o! damage was done to these roads iv the cartage of materials during last sunmiei by my department, foi the Waipapa stream /bridge, and 1 am ol opinion that the Government would tie justified in financing the cost of repairing that damage. Ihe district engineer at Stratford has, therefore, been instructed to have the necessary work put in hand at the earliest possible date. The general maintenance of these roads, however, is a matter for the local bodv concerned and I wpuid suggest that the seiners approach the County Council with a view to having the work attended to."
