ACCURACY OF A STOP-WATCH.
QUESTIONED BY A DEFENDANT.
A comparatively small number oi .bylaw offenders was dealt with in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Charges brought by the police were heard before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., and Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., heard those of the Auckland City Council, Mount Albert Borough Council and Mount Roskill Road Board. On charges of dangerous driving Arthur Porter was fined £4, David Henry and Eustace "Garry, jun., £2 each, and Hilda Northcroft £l. C. W. Travers was con victed and ordered to pay costs. For similar offences in connection with motor cycles, J* Lawrence and S. M. Sharp were fined £5 each. "We have had the Automobile Asso eiation and its friends thrashing the question out before," said "Mr. Hunt, when .1 Carder, charged with speeding, argued that stop-watches might, cause mistakes He was fined £2. For similar offences E. H. Browne, 11-l 1 - 0. Crosby, and R. A. Handlin were fined £3, C. A. Turner £2 10s, D. C. Clark, A. Mcßae. J. T. Mills, K. A. North, H. S. Spurr, P. J. Williams and V'. C. Vercoe £2. and J. B. Burgess and G. Clarke £1 , each. The following were each fined 10s for leaving a car unattended in a street: — A J. Petford, R. W. Russell, A. E. Canham, M. M. Yerex, E. C. Webberley, S. E. Rabope, S. Lamb, L. Sterricker, H. Webber and S. J. Hayden. J. O. Crosby, W. F. Porter and H. Priestley were ordered to pay costs. A fine of 10s was imposed on S. J Robinson for leaving his car in the Domain. "Some of these people leave their cars in Queen Street all day," said Sergeant Calwell. when several _ owners were charged with parking ra Queen Street. W. J. Smeeton, H. Saunders and J. C. Robinson were each fined £l, and S. D. Russell, H. T. Shepherd and F. K. Stratton were fined 10s each. J. M. Hyams, who parked his car in Customs Street, was fined 10s. Errors in parking cost Margaret Paton and S. D. Russeli 10s each. For not having lights, fines of £2 were imposed upon A. F. Hughes and G. H. G. Wrightson. W. A. Gray, 1. T. Francis, J. Gust, R. A. Lewis and J. H. S. Strange were fined 10s each for similar breaches. Fines of 10s were inflicted on F. R. Fox, H. E. Fox and S. Buchanan for pillion riding. For failing, to notijy change of address E. J. Rye was fined £l. R. A. Lewis was fined £2 for driving on the wrong side of the road, while J. Clarkin was ordered to pay costs. A. Kildare, who had no number plate, was ordered to pay costs. On charges in connection with failing to licence a lorry, William Yea was fined £1 and R. J. Smith 10s. Harry Graham was fined 10s for exhibiting an expired identification disc. A fine of £1 was imposed on L. V. Winks for passing a stationary tramcar. Charged with, failing to obey a traffic officer, Howard Abbott was cdnvicted and ordered to pay costs.
