LATE REV. W. READY.

LARGELY-ATTENDED FUNERAL TRIBUTES TO THE DECEASED. Glowing tribute to the memory of the Rev. W. Ready was paid at a service heid prior to the funeral in the Pitt Street Methodist Church yesterday afternoon. There was a large attendance 2 including representatives from several Auckland churches. An outline of Mr. Ready's career was given by the Rev. G. Bond, of Epsom, a friend of many years standing. Since Mr. Ready's arrival in New Zealand about 40 years ago, he said, his name had become a household word in many New Zealand homes, Methodist and others. When he had met Mr. Ready in 1887 he had recognised his unusual personality, his courage and optimism. His ministry was conspicuous right throughout New Zealand for 41 years. He was a manly man in all his dealings and had been a friend and helper to all. As a preacher he had gloried in the great evangelical doctrine of the New Testament. The funeral left for the Purewa Cemetery after the service, being followed by a large number of cars. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. H. Ryan, of Remuera, assisted by the Rev. E. Drake, of Epsom. The Rev. T. E. Olds, and Messrs. J. R. Fow, A. D. Whitehead, C. Payne, F. B. Houghton arid H. Fow acted as pall-bearers.
