THE FASHIONABLE STRIPE.
One of the nicest mixtures for the popular cardigan suits is striped mastic silk and marocain skirt:?. Nearly all th'o French suits are made like this and they look chic to the ninth degree. The dressmakers' fertile minds have been working rapidly on the subject of how to make gaily-striped junipers of such sombre stuffs as crepe de chine and velvet. There are, it appears, several ways, which can quite easily be copied at home. Many of these "stripes" are composed of tucks, either broad or narrow ones, running in all> directions. Another idea is to sew strips of braid or satin ribbon on to the jumper this way and that. I here is an amusing cravat being worn now with tight-fitting, slim-sleeved, tailormade frocks.- It is like that worn by the Royal Fusiliers in the days when they had to protect their collars from their powdered hair. The modern cravat is made in moire, taffetas and velours, either to match exactly the dress or to be a direct contrast. There is a paste brooch stuck in the knot at the back and the tails of the large, loose bow ? hang nearly to the waist at rjie back.
Buttons are coming hack again as fast as the manufacturers can make them. First, there is a Inrge black button right in the middle of the hat, then they are put wherever a pleat or .panel finishes. There are buttons on the cuffs of the new models and nil have button fastenings, which is rnt'ner a nice change when we have been wearing coats that rely on the belt to keen them together. All the new suits and frocks are to lie blue if they are to be smart. This queer colour can look so hard and sophisticated and vet it can look habvish and young. The range of blue shades up to date are:— China. Madonna, tablir, sky and crayon, and grev is, in most cases, the constant companion.
