DOMINION BROADCASTING.
POWER OF IYA STATION. The North Taranaki Radio Society is striving now to have lYA's power quadrupled, states a New Plymouth writer, "until such time as a relay station can be established in New Plymouth." In this conection it is interesting to note that Mr. A. R. Harris stated when in Auckland recently that the Radio Broadcasting Company would like to increase the power of IYA, but financial considerations rendered this quite impossible. Should a power increase financially possible in the future no great difficulty should be presented, as it is understood the transmitting plant at IYA is so designed that by the addition of another panel and bank of apparatus the power can be increased to 1500 watts. There is a fairly persistent rumour- in Wellington that a new broadcasting station similar to IYA is to be provided for Dunedin, to take the place of the present 4YA. This plant, it will be remembered, was "reconditioned" for the Dunedin Exhibition, but it is not now heard so well in Auckland since its wave-length was increased. The artists in Dunedin al] give voluntary j and the efficiency of and patience of those who provide the programme is re- j markable. Otago has only 1760 licensees. This is surprising when it is remembered j that Dunedin was one of the first cities in the world to have a broadcasting service.
