BEAM WIRELESS.
CRITICISM OF SERVICE
[from our own correspondent.] SYDNEY. Aug. 25. A newspaper criticism of beam wireless declares that the service is not handling all the traffic entrusted to it, that it fades out for many hours every day, and that a great many of its messages have to be transferred to the Pacific or Eastern cable companies. These will accept the traffic only at their customary rates, so that by taking messages that it cannot despatch the beam system is paying out of its own resources rather than disclose the truth. If it were a private Concern this, again, would not worry the public much, but the beam service relies upon the taxpayer, and any shortage in its accounts will have to be met out of Federal revenue.
