WEATHER IN AUGUST.
VERY LITTLE SUNSHINE. RAIN ON TWENTY-SIX DAYS. Although August was a wet month it was not an unduly cold one. The official temperature records takes at Albert Park observatory show the extreme minimum temperatare was <ll deg., recorded oo August 2 and 23, and the extreme maximum was 6$ degrees. 02 August 4. 12 and 31. The mean maximum temperatore was 57 deg. and the mean minimum 45.7 deg. The approximate mean temperature for the month was 51.3. The total rainfall for the month', including that on Wednesday was 6.56 in., which is 2.39 in. above the average Rain fell on 26 days. The wettest August recorded was in 1916, when the total rainfall was 10.36 inches. The period of bright sunshine was we!! below the average, the total being 1.35 hours 35> minutes. . The brightest day was last. Friday, when nine hours 15 minutes of sunshine was recorded. The highest barometrical reading was 30.182 inches, and the lowest 23.372. The mean for the month was 23.613. The rainfall at Hamilton in August totalled S.OSin. Rain fell on 20 days, the maximum falling on August 30, when the gauge registered I 81 in. Although rain fell at Whangarei on 24 days last month, the fall, 6,23 in.. did not approach that of August last year, when 11.67 m. fell. The wettest August was in 1920, when 18.62 in. were recorded, and the driest was in 1322. when l.TTin. fell. Tbe rainfall at Otorohanga for- Aogust was 7.13 m. Rain fell on 20 days.
