ENTENTE CORDIALE.
FRENCH GIFT TO BRITAIN. MUTUAL TRIBUTES PAID. (Received September J, 5.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z.-Sun. PARIS, Aug. 31. The Book of France was to-day presented to Sir Austen Chamberlain, as the representative of Britain, at a glittering ceremony in the Hotel de Ville. The gilded salons were filled with a galaxy of notable persons.
The president of the Municipal Council and the Prefect of the Seine made eloquent Entente Cordiale speeches. In accepting tho gift Sir Austen reaffirmed his affection for Franco and his conviction of the necessity for a Franco-British union for tho sake of the peace of the world.
