THE MELBOURNE CUP.
SCRATCHING OF FAVOURITE. (Received September 1, 11.18 p.m.) A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, Sept. 1. A sensation was caused in racing circles to-day when Royal Feast, the favourite for the Melbourne Cup. was scratched. He met with a slight accident when he was running in the Williamstown races on Saturday, and on the advice of veterinary surgeons will be immediately gelded.
