MUNICIPAL GOLF LINKS.
Sir, —In the correspondence columns of the Herald of August 26, appeared a letter advocating municipal golf links, signed "Scientist." His letter was indeed valuable appeal and I compliment him on his commonsense outlook. Why is it that Wellington, Sydney and many other large towns I have visited have municipal golf links, yet Auckland, the most important city in New Zealand, has not this great asset ? I am sure if the people made known to the City Council that they desired a golf links and showed what a direct advantage this would be to the citizens of Auckland, as well as to its numerous visitors and tourists, our progressive council would not stand in the way. Golf, with its health-giving effects, which go to the making of good citizens, should be at the command of the humblest as well as the highest. In most countries municipal golf links are a financial success. I hope to see many citizens raise their voices and demand that our city fathers at once establish golf links, an enterprise which, I am sure, they will never regret, and one which will prove that they are moving with the times and are ever watchful for the citizens' welfare. Walter F. Dahsv.
