DAMAGE BY WILD PIGS.
A MENACE TO LAMBS.
Wild pigs ar9 extremely plentiful in the back country in the Wanganui district, settlers stating that they are more numerous now than has been the case foi many years Besides being a serious menace at every lambing season, the pigs do considerable damage to the bush roads, and it is reported that during the last week or two the Tokomaru East and the Kauarapaoa roads have suffered extremely The animals have become plentiful as a result of fewer persons indulging in the sport' of hunting them. When roads were being constructed in the district workmen employed often spent their week-ends on shooting expeditions round their camps. Two such men employed by the Waitotara County Council shot 400 pigs within six months.
