EXTRADITION SOUGHT.
BANKRUPT IN AUSTRALIA.
BOARDING HOUSE FAILURE.
LIABILITIES TOTAL £4OOO.
A decision to seek an order for extradition from Australia of Roderick GordonGriffith, until recently proprietor of the Mansions boarding-house in Lower Symonds Street, was reached at a meeting of creditors Mr. G. N. Morris, official assignee, presided. The meeting had been adjourned to enable an investigation of bankrupt s assets. Mr. Morris said a rough estimate of bankrupt's position was all he could place before the creditors. The liabilities were in the vicinity of £4OOO and the assets were somewhat doubtful. There were book-debts amounting to £2OO and cash in hand £lO, while probably £IOO could be realised on the furniture of the board-ing-house. At any rate, the first £IOO received would be absorbed by preferential payments. There were rumours that bankrupt had gono away, taking the bulk of his cash with him and that the bulk of his money had been spent in Auckland through gambling. He did not know whether it was worth while bringing him back to .Nel Zealand. It was stated the only cost involved was the amount of bankrupt's passage back to New Zealand. Chief-Detective Gummings and Senior-Detective Hammond, of Auckland, were both in Sydney and their assistance would be forthcom'"it was agreed that at least ten creditors should sign a guarantee limited to £4O to cover the cost of bankrupt s passage, the cost to fall equally on all who signed A Creditor: We will not get any money out of him, but it will be some satisfaction to get him back.
