CONCEITING PROGRESS.

WORK ON GREAT SOUTH! ROAD ANOTHER SECTION OPENED; WIDENING OF TWO BRIDGES. Another short section of the Great South Road approaching Penrose was opened for traffic this week. Motorists are not advised to use this route to Otahuhu on week-ends, as only a single width of concrete is available for several chains. Of the 15 miles 76 chains of highway between the tramway terminus and Papa kura, over 15 miles is carrying traffic, while the larger portion of the 76 chains is concreted and is maturing rapidly. The only breaks in the concrete are 4 chains near the Harp of Erin, and the approaches to St. Anne's Bridge, Otahuhu, Manu rewa Bridge and Wiri Bridge. The two latter bridges are to be widened before paving The completion of this work will provide an unbroken concrete highway of nearly 19 miles from Queen Street.
