The gate takings at the Auckland B-Wai-kato Rugby match in Hamilton on Saturday totalled £ 151 A charge of 2s was made at the outside gate.

MiocDonald, has chosen the following 26 players to go into training with a view to selection in the Thames team for a Peace Cup challenge game with Hamilton on September 24:—M Hayward, F. Moran, B. Harrison, A. Lomas, R. Smith, T. Woofe, H. Donnelly, S. G McMahon, W. Pollock J. Benney. J. Strange, H. Ensor, E. Kelly, J. Pratt, W. Winder, A. Morrissey. T. Dufty, B. Burkhardt, H Allely, W. Percy. J. Thomas, A. McCollum, A. O'Hara. W. O'Hara and G. Kinlock. It was explained by the chairman ot thu Thames Rugby Union, Mr. R. M. Rhodes, this morning that the selector had been requested to name 25 players in view of the prospect of a Peace Cup challenge game with Hamilton on September 24. The idea was to encourage players to train and mak» themselves fit to regain the trophy. If this enthusiasm could not be worked ap the union would merely be involved in an unnecessary expenditure in sending a team to Hamilton that did not possess a reason able chance of lifting the trophy. Mr Rhodes also stated that the selector had beeu advised that Coromandel and Mercury Bay players were eligible for selection.

[BY TELEGI»AFH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PUKEKOHE. Monday. The Pukekohe representatives defeated the Hamilton representatives at Pukekohe on Saturday by 19 points to 3. In spite of a sodden ground and greasy ball, the game was fairly fast and strenuous, with flashes of brilliant play. After the first quarter, Pukekohe developed superiority in both the forward and back divisions, the team playing r good combined game which the visitors failed to match In the first quarter, Hamilton missed a handy penalty kick from quarter-way, and Buckingham crossed the line for Hamilton but lost the ball In the second quarter, Hamiltipn infringed in scrum play against their goalposts, Fraser opening the score with an easy goal for Pukekohe. In a Pukekohe rush Lawrie centred the ball nicely across the goal-line for Golding to score. Pukekohe. 6; Hamilton, 0. Another Pukekohe forward rush saw Fraser break clear and race half the length of the field to score in the corner. Pukekohe 9: Hamilton. 0. For Hamilton, Brough started a passing bout in neutral territory. Buckingham, Carter, Brown and McMillan handling. The last-named scored after a good run of about 30yds. The scores at half- 4 ime wore: Pukekohe, 9: Hamilton. 3. In the third quarter Wood made an opening for Pukekohe and passed to Lawrie, who gained good ground a_nd in-passed to the forwards. Golding scoring and Fraser converting. Pukekohe, 14; Hamilton, 3. Accepting frofn Buckingham's kick. Bell sent AVood away. The Wellington Rugby Referees' Association has carried the following resolution: "That this association protests against the 'whitewashing' of the players ordered off the field in the recent Ranfurly Shield match, in the face of definite charges of misconduct made by the referee." [BY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TUAKAU. Monday. The first match this season for the Imperial Challenge Shield took place at Bombay on Saturday, when Bombay, the holders, defeated Pukekawa by 13 points to 0.

OTOROHANGA V. MANIAPOTO. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] OTOROHANGA. Monday. Tho senior representatives of _ tho re-cently-formed Otorohanga Sub-Union played their second match on Saturday at Te Kuiti against Maniapoto and won by 12 points to 3. The winners showed decided superiority and only the heavy ground prevented their registering a higher score. Tries were scored by Pranks, Taylor, Poster and Wallace. The form of the winning forwards was very impressive. The win waa very popular locally.

TE AROHA REPRESENTATIVES. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TE AROHA. Monday. The following senior players will represent Piako against Waihi at Waihi on Saturday :—Thornton, S. AUCKLAND REFEREES. A meeting of the Auckland Rugby Football Referees' Association was neJd last evening, Mr. P. E. Sutherland presiding. Mr. Grigg. representative on the Appointments Board, reported that some difficulty was being experienced in filling gaps which occurred unavoidably after the appointments were made on Wednesday. As a remedy it was suggested that more namep should be left on the reserve each_week. Mr. Forbes, of the Manukau Referees Association, was welcomed to the meeting, and was informed on rulings which had occurred in matches controlled by him.
