TYPOGRAPHICAL UNION.
SOUND STATE OF FINANCES.
The half-yearly meeting of the Auckland Typographical Union was presided over by the president, Mr. T. Phillips. The report and balance-sheet showed the union to be in a prosperous condition both as regards membership and funds. The receipts for the half-year totalled £529, which, added to the balance of £l2Bl from the previous half-year, made the total on the income side £lBlO 10s 3d. ,The receipts included a bequest of £IOO by the late Sir Henry Brett. The expenditure amounted to £391, of which £Bl was for sickness, out-of-work and retiring allowances. The balance to the union's credit was £l4lß 15s lid, an increase of £137 13s 9d. The membership totalled £340, an increase of 16. Various matters connected with the union and the printing trade were dealt with in the report. The report and bal-ance-sheet were adopted. It was resolved that the Auckland Union should take up federation executive duties at the expiration of the Wellington Union's term, and Messrs. J. Graham and F. A. Cleveland were elected as the Auckland's Union's representatives on the executive. The following members were nominated, from whom the Wellington, Otago and Southland Unions were requested to choose their representative/ on the executive:—Messrs. W. Holmes, P. J. Koefoed, T. Phillips, G. Brotherton, F. Barker, R. Prince, D. Macfarlane, A. C. Munro, C. S. Geen and J. Barbour. It was decided that a suitable presentation should be made to Mr. J. C. Chappell in recognition of his lengthy services as a trustee of the union.
